Travel comfortably by taxi! This course takes you to visit two World Heritage sites.

Munakata Taisha, the head shrine of over 7,000 Munakata goddesses enshrined across Japan, is one of Japan's premier power spots.

Munakata boasts ancient history with its sacred Munakata Taisha and Okinoshima island. Despite being a region worthy of greater attention, its national recognition has been insufficient. However, since its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017 under the "Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region," it has begun to attract more attention.

Course highlights

●Munakata Taisha Okitsu-gu
When visiting Munakata, this is a must-visit place. The grounds, covered with trees, are filled with a serene atmosphere that refreshes visitors. The "Takamiya Festival Hall," believed to be the landing place of the Three Munakata Goddesses, is one of the few remaining ancient ritual sites in Japan. It exudes a solemn atmosphere, drawing worshippers who feel its spiritual power. Munakata Taisha enshrines the Three Goddesses, children of Amaterasu Omikami. Tashima Shrine houses Tagitsuhime-no-Mikoto, Nakatsu Shrine houses Takanatsuhime-no-Mikoto, and Benten Shrine houses Ichikishimahime-no-Mikoto. Collectively known as Munakata Taisha, Benten Shrine hosts many ceremonies.

●Nihara and Dozan Kofun Group
These are the tombs of the powerful ancient clan "Munakata-kun," who conducted rituals on Okinoshima, dating back to the 5th to 6th centuries.

●Satsuki Matsubara
Ranked as one of Japan's three finest beaches, Satsuki Matsubara stretches for about 5 kilometers along the gently curving coastline of the Genkai National Park, lined with 200-year-old black pine trees.

●Chingu-ji Temple, a Special National Temple
Founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) upon his return from China, it is the oldest Shingon temple. The statue of Fudo Myoo enshrined in the Goma Hall is meticulously carved by Kukai himself and designated as a national treasure. The temple grounds, surrounded by forests, offer seasonal flowers throughout the year. Leisurely exploring the inner sanctuary is highly recommended.
